Youth Build Solar Energy-Powered EV Charging Station

Rajarshi Polytechnic Students Harshada More, Shraddha, Bhavana, and Harsh Developed an Eco-Friendly System to Address the Shortage of Charging Points in a College Project

To solve the issue of the rapidly growing number of electric vehicles (EVs) and the lack of charging stations, young students have developed a “Smart Solar Powered EV Charging Station with Automatic Solar Panel Cleaning System.” This ultra-modern and eco-friendly project was created by third-year electrical engineering students Harshada More, Shraddha Baviskar, Bhavana Wagh, and Harsh Lade from Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Polytechnic College.

The smart system includes solar panels, a battery to store energy, a modern charging unit for electric vehicles, and an automatic cleaning system. Solar energy generated throughout the day via panels is stored in batteries and used to charge electric vehicles. This system relies entirely on green energy, helping reduce dependence on traditional power sources. The project was created under the guidance of Principal Prof. Prashant Patil, Head of Department Prof. P.A. Shinde, and Project Guide Prof. P.R. Gangurde. Adv. Nitin Thakare, General Secretary of MVP Society, congratulated the team on their success.

Project Leader Shraddha Baviskar explained that the combination of a solar energy-based EV charging system and an automatic solar panel cleaning system is the project’s key feature. Dust and dirt accumulation on panels blocks sunlight and reduces efficiency. To overcome this, the automatic cleaning system clears the panels at set intervals, ensuring continuous high performance, higher power generation, lower maintenance costs, and constant energy availability.

A Major Step Toward Green Energy-Based Technology

The automatic cleaning system led to a noticeable increase in panel efficiency, proving the system long-lasting, reliable, energy-efficient, and economically beneficial. Scaling this up will mark a significant milestone toward green energy technology.”

Useful Project for Smart Charging Infrastructure

It strikes a balance between energy savings, low maintenance costs, and environmental protection, making it a stellar step toward future smart charging infrastructure.”

Project Idea Sparked by EV Breakdowns and Charging Issues

“The number of electric vehicles in the city is growing continuously. People prefer EVs, but the number of charging stations is low in comparison, causing inconvenience. Batteries often discharge midway, forcing people to push their vehicles to charging stations. Witnessing this issue inspired the idea for our project. The team took three months to build it. Its greatest feature is that alongside charging EVs, it automatically cleans the solar panels, operating completely on eco-friendly solar power.”
